I have been beading for about twenty years. Primarily trained in design, my interest in beadwork began in 1985 after working for many years with tapestry weaving. It seemed like a natural extension of the type of work with color, design and texture found in weaving.
I work from a studio in my home in Nevada City, California. My beadwork consists basically of loomed pieces. My main focus is jewelry, but I have made wall art, table art, and framed pictures.
There are many beautiful and varied beads suitable for weaving. My favorite bead is the Japanese Delica Bead. This bead provides the greatest color range and allows for the most versatile and delicate work. I also use many Swarovski Crystals with my work. These crystals are precision cut and blend extremely well with the Delica Bead.
I enjoy putting design, color and texture together to create pieces of art that someone will enjoy wearing or have in their home. It gives me pleasure to create pieces, but if it brings pleasure to someone else, it certainly heightens the importance of what I have created.
My education in art consists of:
- 1972-1974 Cabrillo College: California Drawing and Sculpture
- 1975-1976 Southern Oregon State College Weaving and Design
- 1976-1978 Oregon College of ArtAdvertising and Design
- 1985-1987 Western Oregon State CollegeArt for Children
- 1994-2000 1994-2000 Don Pierce Advance Beading Techniques Personal Instruction/Tutoring
