The Artery features my collection of ceramics and photographs. While working with clay, I enjoy both the rhythm of production and the way a finished piece is capable of energizing the space it inhabits and the people it touches. This work is conceived as tableware—plates and bowls complementing each other, but each piece can stand alone as an individual work as well. The hand-built shapes are loose with a variety of blended brushed colors over subtle combed or drawn textures. Strong and versatile, these plates, platters and bowls can be used and enjoyed every day and still last a lifetime.
My photographs often tell a story by combining elements of other images and seeing how they relate to each other in a new context. I appreciate the element of surprise as a new and unforeseen abstraction emerges from parts borrowed from often disparate photographs. In this sense, they act as a kind of visual poetry, pointing to something unseen..
