Monotypes, Mixed Media, and Ceramics
Artist: Emma Luna
Date: January 6 to February 7, 2012
Reception: Friday, January 13,
7:00 to 9:00 PM
Emma's exciting exhibit focuses on monotypes and mixed media. Monotypes are unique images that appear when oil inks are painted on a plate, which is then passed through a press. To these Emma adds photo images as well as texture with cheesecloth impressions, woodcuts, and etchings. Found shapes including leaves, tree pods, and representational images produce a layered, multifaceted effect.
Emma's photos evoke haunting childhood memories of her native Dominican Republic and other Latin American sites. These are captured within the labyrinth of colored planes and layers of semi-transparent surfaces. Her works are both personal and inspired. She will also include a small retrospective of her ceramic sagger fire vessels and stacks.
