Amy McElwain

Amy's primary work is mixed media with an emphasis on collage. She came to fine art through a very circuitous route. Growing up she was involved in dance and then music, Studying at the Crane School of Music in New York. Although she has had creative outlets all of her life, it wasn't until the birth of her second child that she felt drawn to the medium of collage. She is book and self-taught and began mixing mediums as her curiosity and knowledge grew. Her current work is devoted to animals with a whimsical approach that captures the animal's essence while using texture, color, and pattern to give the piece a modern twist.

"I feel that art and the creative process is a journey that can lead in unplanned and surprising directions. I love the medium of collage and its infinite possibilities. I enjoy being able to add other mediums such as acrylics and inks to give my work depth of color and texture. I have always loved animals and enjoy bringing them to life."
