Lorna Miser - Upcycled Fashions
Lisa M. Erskine, MFA - Weavings
July 5 - August 10, 2025
Reception Friday, July 11, 6 - 9 pm
Lorna Miser’s work beautifully stitches together artistry, function, and sustainability. Drawing from an eclectic palette of reclaimed materials—vintage quilts, denim, bicycle inner tubes, upholstery remnants, and more—she creates durable, fashion-forward bags with character and conscience. Crafted on machines ranging from modern tools to a 60-year-old military-grade industrial model, each piece is uniquely practical and visually striking.
Lorna’s creativity extends to three-dimensional textile wall art, where fabric scraps become vivid scenes of bicycles in front of beloved local landmarks. Trees, leaves, and buildings rise from the canvas, bringing familiar bike trails to life with texture and movement. Miser’s work is art you can carry or hang on your wall—and a celebration of sustainable, soulful design.

Lorna Miser’s lifelong love of textiles began with her grandmother, who taught her to sew, knit, and crochet. In the late '80s, she founded the beloved yarn company Lorna’s Laces and continued designing knit and crochet patterns until 2022.
With the challenges of the pandemic, Lorna returned to her sewing roots—this time with a focus on sustainability. Using rescued materials like vintage curtains, quilts, jeans, tablecloths, upholstery remnants, and bicycle inner tubes, she crafts durable, functional, and stylish bags.
Each bag is a unique work of functional art. Some are designed for biking, others for everyday use—school, shopping, or as purses. All feature upcycled inner tubes and thoughtfully chosen fabrics.

Detail
Lisa loves to recycle to help with our number one problem that we all share: Climate Change. She does the few things she can and one of them is collecting cloth from bedspreads, jeans in particular, other cloth items that would be turned into rags and then thrown out into pieces of functional art.
Theses rag rugs will warm the feet or walls of people who want to reduce their carbon footprint. This show will be up at The Artery from June 2- July 3rd. Our summers have been filled with dread of fire and lack of water. The work inspires the colors of moisture and growth that can occur during our summer months.
The show is filled with a very wide sampling of weaving techniques and functions. From tabby to Doubleweave Pick Up, Weft Brocade, painted and dyed yarns is created an environment of moisture and sun, colors warmth and cool.
With nature and birds as the common theme, painter and sculptor Cathie James-Robinson and painter Amanda Cadelago each bring their unique style to this show.
Cathie enjoys presenting her take on nature in all forms, from 2D to 3D, from closely zoomed in to full panoramic landscape views. In this gallery exhibit, she brings vibrant detailed paintings along with companion clay sculptures, mainly focusing on local habitats and wildlife. With this show, she will be presenting her ceramic “Vessel Series”.
Amanda loves to paint all the things in our lives that are beautiful and spark joy. From animals to flowers, still lifes to landscapes - she wants to capture all that we cherish in this life while also experimenting with mediums and colors. Amanda’s latest series for Birds of a Feather, is a playful combo of birds, colorful interiors, and art.
Cathie and Amanda’s shared instinctive connection to art and their appreciation for birds inspired the exhibition’s name. They hope you enjoy viewing their collection of work as much as they have creating it.

A Wing and A Prayer
Janine Echabarne’s Ceramic Sculptures
February 28 – March 24
Reception Friday, March 14, from 6-9 pm
.
Janine titled her show ‘a wing and a prayer’ because it expresses her feeling that we are flying on one wing in a dangerous time. The bas relief pieces are like prayers or wishes for all people, everywhere, to enjoy basic human rights. These rights are to love who we want to love; the right to be safe and nurtured; the right to be joyful in expressions of our own making.
Janine has been an accomplished jeweler for many years. Ceramics now give her another way to express her creativity. The sculptures begin as slabs of clay that are joined and pushed from the inside to make the form, which is then altered by adding or taking away clay to complete the idea.

Contained: The Art of Stillness
A Solo Exhibition by Louise McGowan Bezark
January 3-27, 2025
Reception, Friday, January 10, 5-8 pm
Artist Talk, Saturday January 4, 11 am
The Artery presents Contained: The Art of Stillness featuring a solo exhibition by Louise McGowan Bezark. This exhibition runs from January 3 to 27, with the reception on Friday, January 10, from 5-8 pm. Louise will give an artist talk on Saturday, January 4 at 11 am.
With a spiritual leaning that bridges Eastern and Western philosophy, each piece in this exhibition contains heart and soul. Art reflects life…a return to decades long practices of meditation, silence and contemplation are reflected in this collection. Between 3D sculptures and framed pieces, it is Louise’s desire that the viewer remember a bit of peace and stillness as they stop into the gallery in the new year.
