Happy Hour is about facing uncertainty with optimism. Making this body of work in my studio was my daily refuge of calm and order.

The simplified color palette of red, yellow, and blue with black and white provided a structure with unlimited possibilities. The small collages for Project 365, my ongoing daily discipline, were constructed using papers created on a gel plate with acrylic paint. The resulting prints are texture-rich with repetitive and irregular patterns. The larger format of the paintings applied those same elements of the small works, while allowing an expanded experience with with color, depth and rhythm.

This body of work is my way of making sense of the world around me. In the midst of big life changes requiring shifts in perspective, making art was, and is, my lifeline. Working daily with my simplified palette in solitude allows me to create what makes me happy.

The Artery starts the New Year with an unusual group show featuring 40 Artery member and 9 guest artists. This exciting show reveals the creativity of artists who work with strict limitations. The pieces in “Perfectly Square” have no medium restriction, but the common thread is the square and dimensions of either 8”x 8” or 12” x 12”. The mediums used for paintings are oil, acrylic and pastel, as well as silk, encaustic and mixed media collage. Ceramic, glass, printmaking and photography are beautifully represented, with fiber and woodworking artists showing stunning creations. All the pieces are new and never shown before.
